Art Camp is in Session

I am doing an art camp this summer with MicroSkills Canada. I’ve got the opportunity to work with two groups of about 30 youth ages 10-15 based in Rexdale, Ontario. Time is really flying as the camp is almost over – just three weeks to go! The youth are working their way through a Poetic Art project called, ‘Community Is…’

It has been a challenge to work with such large groups and to keep them on task but I am seeing some very creative art work emerge from these young Toronto artists in progress. Overall, I find community art projects like this extremely rewarding, especially in Rexdale where I can work with such a diverse group of youth.

I will put up some photos of their collage art and poetry pieces when they are finished.

Well, my six weeks has come to a close and the Poetic Art Workshop has been complete with the summer camp youth. This art workshop was challenging yet rewarding. I will miss all of the youth that I worked with and I hope that they take pride in their finished projects that express their thoughts and views about their community.
