For months now, I’ve been getting a lot of requests for batik workshops. There is an interest in exploring this creative and extremely rewarding art form. Batik workshops are a great way to learn the basics of batik and experiment with various techniques.
I have been practicing batik since the late 90s and it is an artistic medium that I has taught me many valuable lessons as an artist. One of the main lessons is the importance of retaining white in your pieces because once it’s gone – it’s gone and white is crucial for visually enhancing your pieces regardless of the medium.
Batik has also taught me to patiently plan my use of colour from light to dark because trying to go backwards if you have made yellow dye red is impossible and disappointing if after careful inspection of your piece you feel that a lot of lighter colours could further enhance your art piece.
Batik has also showed me the the beauty and vibrancy of contrasting colours. There is something about the swirling colours on fabric that truly ‘pop’ after the layers of wax have been removed that keeps me returning to the medium again and again.
If you are interested in experimenting with batik, please contact me to schedule a batik workshop. One on one batik workshops are available as well as workshops for small and large groups.
